English

Online Resources: (textbook) www.eduplace.com/rdg/hme/6_8/
Students will engage in daily language review involving parts of speech, vocabulary, editing and spelling. Students will also have practice in their English books with homework assignments.
Literature
Textbook: Literature Grade 6
Online Resources: (textbook) www.pearsonschool.com
Our reading program consists of a combination of our literature book and chapter books. We will explore different genres of books and poetry. Students will read individually, with partners, in a small group, and with the whole class. Students are given many different opportunities to participate in class discussions. Our sixth grade focus will be making predictions, generalizations, and inferences. We will analyze the plot, point of view, author's perspective, tone, characterization, conflict, purpose, theme and setting in our stories.
Spelling
Textbook: Spelling Connections
Online Resources: (textbook) www.zaner-bloser.com
Spelling will consist of practice in our spelling book, with tests on Fridays. Students will practice analogies, synonyms, context clues, and proofreading.
Writing
Students will have practice in the writing process-- from how to get ideas for writing to putting ideas on paper and eventually creating a final draft. We will focus on different types of writing--narrative, descriptive, explanatory, argument, and persuasive. We will have time to share our writing in small groups and large groups.
